Women From Across Chin State Meet in Hakha for Conference


By Lalnun – The second conference of the Chin Women Organizations network is taking place in Hakha, Chin State, from November 28-30.

According to Chin Women Organizations Network chairperson Sui Thluai Thang, conference participants will discuss women’s empowerment and development and advancement of the ethnic Chin people.

“We are going to discuss what we can do for our people and our state,” Daw Sui Thluai Thang said. “We are very close and we are working together for our ethnic people. Participants will hold active discussions in the conference, so our state and our people will benefit.”

During the three-day event, participants will explore issues ranging from Chin customs for women to child and maternal care to protocol for women’s organizations. Participants will also approve the rules and regulation of the Chin Women Organizations Network and elect new executive members.

A total of more than 80 representatives from nine townships in Chin State, as well as Kalay and Tamu in Sagaing Region, are in attendance.

The Chin Women Organizations Network was formed in 2013, following a decision to do so at the second Chin National Conference. The first conference of the Chin Women Organizations Network was held in Kalay, Sagaing Region, last year.
