“We took up arms to protect our nationals”: CNF

After two decades of relentlessly fighting the Burmese government, the Chin National Front (CNF) has said that the reason it took up arms was only to protect Chin nationals.

“The Chin National Front will fight against all its enemies on behalf of Chin nationals and Chinland,” said Colonel Solomon, of the Chin National Army (CNA) at the closing ceremony of 21st basic military training on November 22.

The military training closing ceremony was attended by party leaders of CNF, Divisional Commanders and other officers. It also held a competition in small weapons handling and shooting.

The Chin National Front is allied with the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), the  Karen National Union (KNU), Kareni National Progressive Party (KNPP), New Mon State Party (NMSP), Shan State Progressive Party (SSPP), PaO National Liberation Organization (PNLO), Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF), Arakan National Council (ANC), Lahu Democratic United (LDC), and Wo National Organization (WNO).

After the destruction of its central military camp by the Burmese Army following pressure by India, the Chin National Front (CNF) operates from hidden military camps on the Indo-Burma border areas and is very much active.

It is learnt that after the 2010 general elections in Burma, the movement by the Chin National Front has received more support than ever before by Chin nationals abroad.

“The Chin National Front is born from among the people and the participation of the people is most important,” said a spokesperson of CNF. Khonumthung news
