Two killed in accident on Indo-Myanmar border

A driver and his helper were killed on the spot in a truck accident on No.2, Indo-Myanmar trade road at around 10:00 pm local standard time on 25 June.

Dongh Khen Khai (21), a truck driver and his helper were heading for Hakha, the capital of Chin state from Kalemyo, Sagaing division of Myanmar at 7 pm. The accident occurred near Taingin village of Kalemyo. It fell 50 feet in a roadside gorge.

“The accident occurred around 10 pm. Heavy snow and slush covered the road, ” said an eye witness from Kalemyo.

Dongh Khen Khai, son of the Loh Khanh Thang family stay in Hakha and the helper is from Falam Town.

The driver’s body was transported to Hakha where his family is staying at around 5 pm on 26 June and the helper was given a funeral in Falam Town.

Accidents are frequent in Chin state due to a bad road communication system.
