Two killed, 10 injured in bus crash in Chin state


Two passengers died on the spot and 10 other passengers were injured in a bus accident on the No.2, Indo-Burma trade road on 8 November.

The accident occurred between New Eden and Hmun Thar village of Falam Township, Chin state Burma, when the route bus was approaching Tiau village on the Indo-Burma trade road to Kalemyo, Sagaing division, said a local.

“The accident occurred around noon (local standard time). Two passengers died on the spot. An underage child’s thigh was fractured. The injured were sent to hospital in Rih sub-township of Falam,” said a trader woman from Teddim Town. 9560419046

The No.2 Indo-Burma trade road in Chin state, witnesses frequent accidents and many lives are lost but the authorities have done nothing about it.

“The road was slippery in the morning and the passengers walked from 8 am,” said a woman who came from Kalemyo to Tiau village on 7 November.

The route buses on the No.2, Indo-Burma trade road are overloaded and carry 13 passengers instead of the mandatory seven passengers.

The Mirror newspaper reported on 18 October that a 25 mile, 4 furlong Teddim road is to be constructed at a cost of 2909 million Kyat next year connecting the of Indo- Burma trade road.
