Matupi dance group sweeps awards


The Matupi cultural dance group grabbed the maximum number of prizes at the state level cultural dance competition, in Chin state, Burma. The competition was held in Hakha, the capital of Chin state between October 14 and 15.

Cultural bamboo dances, individual dances, group songs, instrumental music, mixed songs of man and woman and individual instrumental music competitors participated in the cultural dance. Eight township competitors participated, said a local.

Matupi contestants were awarded the first prize for the cultural bamboo dance, group song, and individual singer categories, while the second prizes went to Mindat Township competitors.

Colonel Zaw Min Oo, Security and Border Affairs Minister of the Chin state government, Minister of Social Affairs, and Minister of Agriculture attended the cultural dance competition inauguration.

The Township level cultural dance competition was held in Bungtla Town hall in Matupi on 1 September 2012.

Dai, Matu, Mara and Zotung cultural dancers participated with their cultural dance. The Matu cultural dance received the first prize with the presentation of the Khotue cultural dance of Matu.

The winning group was awarded 20,000 Kyats by Colonel Han Tu, Tactical- II commander and 10,000 Kyats by the officer in-charge of Matupi Chin National Front’s liaison office.
