Dr. Lian Hmung Sakhong holds public consultation in Chin state

Dr. Lian Hmung Sakhong, exiled Burmese ethnic leader and supreme council member of the Chin National Front (CNF) held a public consultation meet organized by the CNF’s Public Consultation Organizing Committee in Than Tlang Town of Chin state, Burma.

“The meeting was held at the Diamond Jubilee Hall of Than Tlang on 5 November. Around 700 local people attended the meeting,” said Salai Siang Cung Bik, Coordinator of CNF’s Public consultation organizing committee.

Dr. Sakhong, leader of Ethnic Nationalities Council and CNF’s supreme council member also held a public consultation meet in Hakha, the capital of Chin state between 31 October and 2 November.

“He talked about democracy, human rights and the federal system,” said a town elder from Hakha.

Dr. Sakhong was warmly welcomed by people in Kalemyo, Hakha and Than Tlang’s. The ethnic leader’s trip will continue to the CNF camp located on the Indo-Burma border area.

He participated in a seminar titled ‘Will Democracy bring peace to Myanmar’ organized by the Myanmar Egress and Peace Research Institute Oslo in Rangoon between 13 and 14 October. And addressed a seminar on “The 2008 Constitution and Ethnic Issues: To what extent did it satisfy the aspirations of various Ethnic Groups?” He also met U Aung Min, Union Minister of Burma.
