CNF attends Asian Peace Conference in Cambodia




Representatives of the Chin National Front (CNF), Pu Paul Smith, general secretary (I) and Pu Solomon, colonel of military affairs attended the Asian Peace Conference in Siem Reap, Cambodia between 8 and 9 August, organized by the Asian Centre for Peace Conference. The conference was sponsored by the Australian government. Cease fire groups ABSDF, KNPP, KNU, CNF and other government representatives from Philippine, Somalia, Nepal and Malaysia attended. There are 10 cease fire groups in Myanmar.

“We discussed our experiences on the peace process with the concerned governments. We learnt a lot from the two- day conference to work on the peace process in our respective areas,” Pu Paul Smith told Khonumthung.


The conference was mainly for the cease fire groups in South East Asia for peace processes with respective governments and there was a plan for further discussions following the result of this conference, he added.


The Chin National Front (CNF) has had  state level peace talks with President Thein Sein’s government in 2012, after that, there was Union level peace talks twice for self-determination, federalism and democracy in Chin state.
