CNDP kickoff by-election campaign in Chin state

Chin National Democratic Party (CNDP) has launched its by-election campaign in Thantlang town, from this week for a seat of National Parliament, vacated by Vice-president (2) Henry Van Thiau, although the ballot is still one month away.

The by-election will be held in Thantlang town, and the candidates are Pi Za Tlem from Chin National Democratic (CND) party, Pu Bawi Khing from National League for Democracy (NLD) party and Pu Zo Peng from Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP).

Pi Za Tlem has been elected as People’s Parliament in 2010 general election in Thantlang township. But she was not re-elected in 2015 general election. Similarly Pu Zo Peng also lost in 2015 election in the same.

However, Pu Bawi Khing from NLD will face by-election for his very first time.

Salai Ceu Bik Thawng said, “As Chin and Kayah have no representatives of their ethnic group from political parties for losing general election in 2015, they cannot attain permission to attend Union Level Peace Conference. But this upcoming by-election will be a chance for us, in order to participate in Union level peace conference for federal and national issue deeply, that’s why it is very important.”

CNDP is the only one party of Chin to contest by-election in Chin state.
