Chin Women’s Organization set up in Mindat town


A Chin Women’s Organization (CWO) was established on 27 September 2014 at western block in Mindat town with 30 members.


The main objectives of the organization are to have self-determination, to promote women’s rights and to empower women on discrimination. They have selected nine members for their Central Working Committee.


“We made future plans at the meeting including funding for the organization and the working committee will follow it up. We’ll frame the constitution for the organization,” said Salai Aung Lian Thang, attending the meeting as advisor.


It has initiated visiting house to house for donations and awareness in order to strengthen the organization.


Newly appointed Central Working Committee members are Mai Thang Lai (Chairman), Mai Hung Lai (Secretary) and seven other members. It is the first independent community based women’s organization in Mindat town.


Meanwhile, the Chin Women’s Organizations Network has been established on 15 September 2014 in Hakha town.
