Accident kills four injures seven in Mindat Township


Four passengers died on the spot and seven were injured in an accident in Mindat Township, southern Chin state, Burma on April 7.

The accident occurred between Mindat and Vuamtu village. A jeep was ferrying 11 passengers. The owner of the jeep is U Thang Awm hailing from the eastern block of Mindat. The injured passengers were admitted to Mindat civil hospital, said a local.

“A passenger jumped off the jeep after the driver lost control of the vehicle apparently when the brakes failed. The jeep ran off the road and fell headlong 100 feet below,” said Salai Aung Aung.

The dead were identified as Ms. Kin Myue (school teacher), Mrs. Ling Khaw Lam, Mrs. Chaing Yawng and Mrs. Zaw Awi from Vuamtu village.

“The bodies and the injured persons were carried away by Mindat’s social workers, ” Said Salai Aung Aung.

Hakhui Chain, the driver of the jeep is being detained at the local police station. The driver was also injured in the accident.
